Do You Have Dirty Ducts?
Improve your indoor air quality with duct cleaning.
Did you know your ventilation system is often the biggest culprit in poor indoor air quality? In most cases, the HVAC system has been operating for some time without much attention. Dirty ducts can circulate odors, contaminants such as mold and irritating dust throughout your building or home.
A routine part of your local SERVPRO Franchise Professional's service is inspecting the heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit (HVAC). Keeping the HVAC and ductwork clean can potentially extend the life-span of the equipment by allowing it to operate at peak condition, which may help save you money. Duct cleaning may not always be necessary.
In some circumstances, such as after a fire, smoke or suspected mold growth, duct cleaning becomes an essential part of the cleanup process. In these cases, your SERVPRO Franchise Professional can often restore the HVAC system and ductwork to pre-damage condition.
If you have a fuel-burning furnace, stove or fireplace, the U.S. Environmental Agency (EPA) recommends they be inspected for proper functioning and be serviced before each heating season to protect against carbon monoxide poisoning.
The SERVPRO Duct Cleaning System is proven and cost-efficient. Unlike the majority of duct cleaning services, your SERVPRO Franchise Professional uses a portable ventilation and air duct cleaning system to examine ductwork and make a clean sweep, removing years of dust and grime.
- The process begins by using patented equipment, including a roto-scraper, which automatically adapts to the duct's shape and diameter while traveling through the duct, removing debris and filth before vacuuming begins.
- Next, a powerful push-pull air delivery and collection system transfers the debris from the ducting to a 16-gallon container.
- Air is filtered through a HEPA filtration system, removing 99.97 percent of the particles in the airstream. HEPA filters capture debris and keep the indoor environment clean.
- As an optional process, a sealant or coating product may be sprayed to address odor or microbial concerns.
- Filters will either be cleaned or replaced to remove odor and dirt.

Mold in your Home or Business? Call SERVPRO

Mold in a bathroom shower.
Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:
- Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
- Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
- Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce health effects.
- Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
- Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold issues.

SERVPRO has many methods of Deodrization.
9/17/2021 (Permalink)
A few of SERVPRO's many machines used to deodorize a customers home or business.
SERVPRO of Laurel has many methods to deodorize a nuisance odor in your home or business. We have several specialized deodorizers which are applied by ULV and Thermal Foggers. We also have Ozone Generators for those hard to eliminate odors. Hydroxyl Generators are another tool we have for eliminating unpleasant odors. We can help make that problem odor "Like it never even happened."
Thermal fogging uses a special solvent or water based deodorizer that is heated and applied as a dry fog. This allows the deodorizer to get into all areas of the structure.
Ozone is used to oxidize organic odors such as smoke, pet odors, mildew, organic pollutants and more without the use of chemicals. This is done by the ozone machine using an electrical current to split oxygen molecules it the air (O2) resulting in a free oxygen molecule which reattached to the oxygen in the air and resulting (O3) ozone. Ozone can only be used when humans, plants, and animals are not in the area. The area needs to be dry when using ozone because it can cause bleaching if the area is wet.
Hydroxyl generators are used in a method similar to ozone, but can be ran in occupied areas. If ozone can be used for one day, hydroxyl generators will typically take three to five days. The results are similar to ozone but are safer because people do not have to be removed from the home or business.
If your experiencing odors in your home or business, give SERVPRO of Laurel the opportunity to make that odor "Like it never even happened."

Mold Tips
3/15/2019 (Permalink)
Mold is the enemy of every homeowner. Mold looks unsightly, smells bad, and can cause damage to your soft furnishings, carpets, clothes, and even your appliances or the structure of your home itself. Often the first sign of mold is a glimpse of discoloration on a wall or ceiling, or maybe noticing that telltale moldy smell in a bathroom or laundry room.
However, spores can grow in hidden places, too. You can reduce the risk of the fungus growing unnoticed and causing mold damage to your residence home by being proactive about looking for evidence of mold. SERVPRO recommends you check the following places for hidden contamination.
Chimneys
Chimneys are cold and can easily get damp from rain or even snow. Brickwork provides plenty of hidden crevices for spores to grow in. Make sure your chimney flashing is in good condition and replace it if need be. An annual visit from a chimney sweep is a good idea, too.
Kitchen Appliances
Most kitchen appliances get washed after every use, but there are still some hidden areas you must check regularly. Take a look at refrigerator drip trays, the door and seal of front-loading washing machines, and refrigerator and freezer seals. You can deal with mild cases using a weak bleach solution followed by a quick wipe with white vinegar.
Carpets and Carpet Pads
Carpets and carpet pads provide an environment where mold can propagate unnoticed, especially if a carpet gets wet. If your floor coverings get wet, call us at once. Our skilled teams come with free standing and truck mounted pumps and extraction tools to remove water and lessen the risk of fungus growing under your carpet or pad.
SERVPRO of Laurel recommends putting in a call to us at the first sign of mold in your home. Our IICRC certified technicians come prepared to set up containment to protect the rest of your home before getting to work on thoroughly cleaning the affected area. We use powerful HEPA vacuums to vacuum loose spores from surfaces, along with a combination of sanding, wire brush scrubbing, dusting, and wiping with a detergent solution to ensure each surface is properly cleaned of mold. We also use negative air machines when needed, to vent contaminated air outside your home.
When mold cleaning is complete, our trained experts bring in dehumidifiers and air movers to dry the affected room, carpet, or area back to its normal level of dryness and discourage further growth.
If you suspect mold growth in your home, give SERVPRO of Laurel a call at (601)425-0119 today.

Recently a customer with rental property was checking his property after the tenants had moved. In his inspection he discovered that the carpets in the master bedroom had been taken care of very poorly. The property owner shared his dismay with his real estate agent and she came and inspected the carpets as well. " you will have to change the flooring because these carpets can not be cleaned" This particular real estate agent had much experience in this area and so the home owner begin to make plans to replace the carpet. As a last ditch effort the home owner called a friend who was with SERVPRO and asked if there were any possibilities available. SERVPRO responded and cleaned the carpet. The home owner was ecstatic! The carpets which were originally almost white were in better shape after SERVPRO cleaned them than they were before the renters moved in. SERVPRO has experience and training that allows them to clean and restore what many would say can not be helped. Before you accept that your project is not doable... do yourself a solid favor and call SERVPRO of Laurel @ 601-425-0119.
Your anticipated replacement could become restored... Better than before!
SERVPRO has many methods of Deodorization.

This is done by the ozone machine using an electrical current to split oxygen molecules it the air (O2)resulting in a free oxygen molecule which reattached to the oxygen in the air and resulting (O3) ozone.
